Apolipoprotein A-IV and Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Apolipoprotein A-IV (apoA-IV) is an intestinal glycoprotein involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and oxidative stress. At the Institute of Genetic Epidemiology, this project explores apoA-IV as a potential biomarker for age-related diseases, with a focus on kidney, cardiovascular, and eye health. Using data from ~2,400 older adults, the thesis investigates the association between apoA-IV levels and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), considering confounders such as age, sex, lipid profiles, and kidney function. Depending on interest, extensions may include analyses of apoA-IV stability over time or its links to other health outcomes.
